Have you ever wondered what happens if at the end of your tenancy if the Landlord wants to retain your deposit? What can you do?, what are your rights? and how can you ensure disputes are resolved amicably?
For many years we have been using The Deposit Protection Scheme (DPS) as the Government approved deposit protection scheme that we are obliged to use, to store and handle our tenant deposits. Their service has always been good and deposits get returned quickly to tenants at the end of the let.
It is very unusual for us to need to ask to retain money from a deposit. If we do need to do this the Tenant is usually in agreement with this course of action. For the few instances where this might not be the case it is worth sharing with you the process used by the DPS to manage and resolve disputes. The DPS are impartial and follow a procedure to ensure the issue has been fairly dealt with.
