You know that feeling when you wake up one Sunday morning and say to yourself resolutely “Today I am going to build a house”
Phillip and I are always pondering new ways that we could expand our portfolio of properties and the subject of self-build has been discussed on many occasions, but finding a suitable site, and living for months in a caravan have always proved a barrier to realising this dream.
Today was different though! Today we were going to achieve our goal, and be an inspiration to our daughter.
China has built a whole hospital in 10 days. The Germans are famed for their prefabricated houses, assembled by a team, in a week. The race is on for us to better their time, and we were confident … until we saw just how many pieces there were in the box!!!

Time passes quickly when your foreman is a 2 year old girl excited at the prospect of having her own very own Wendy house to play in.

Its always tricky if you don’t have the exact tool for the job. Luckily we were able to improvise a giant screwdriver with a butter knife.

It turns out the key in this case was identifying your circle joints from your triangle, square, and hexagon joints. (Were they expecting this to really be built by a child!)
Nevertheless we go on and finished the build.

It’s a bit cosy on the inside. Thank goodness for the window, without having this to stick my head through to turn around, I may have been permanently jammed in.

Turns out though it is perfectly sized for our two year old and her collection of stuffed toys.
Happy tenants!

The joke is on us though, as the house was intended to put in the garden, and now is too big to fit through the back door!
